Phoebe Collings-James
Artist Profile
Phoebe Collings-James’s limited edition print references a netting mask worn in her 16mm video work ‘Mother Tongue, Mother Master’ (2018) in which it bound the artist’s voice and body. The netting retains an echo of the figure.
Phoebe Collings-James moves deftly between materials including drawing, video, sculpture, performance, text in her wider practice. Her work is disruptive, considering objects outside of Western philosophical assumptions. She puts objects in flux and incorporates layering to explore the politics and erotics of violence and fear. Collings-James graduated from Goldsmiths University in 2009 with a BA in Fine Art.
