Phoebe Collings-James’ print references a netting mask worn in her recent 16mm video work ‘Mother Tongue, Mother Master’ (2018). In the video, the mask served to bind the artist’s voice, constraining the body and its histories, whilst sounds proposed the possibility of agency and resistance. The work explored the poetics and emotional debris of violence. In the print, the netting retains a distant echo of the human figure. Closely related to her wider practice, this print speaks to her lived experience of surviving and desiring within hostile environments. Her print is available to collect in a limited edition of 100.
