The curious title of Holly Stevenson’s print ‘I’m All For Yellow’ advocates the right for women to be free from gender stereotyping. The print layers pink, blue and yellow because these three colours are commonly associated with baby clothes and used to enforce behaviour through fashion from birth. The colour yellow is considered neutral in the human world of child fashion and this chimes with the artist’s practice as she plays with colour and shape to create gender fluid forms in her ceramic practice. Here she considers the egg yoke's biologically unfertilised status, its X female chromosome and its neutral colour yellow, and surrounds it with the options of pink and blue, hoping that the viewer will simply imagine the yellow sphere back into its neutral shell.
